Smiling Big and Scaring Kids

When I volunteer in my 9 year old daughter's classroom, she tells me before hand not to smile too big.  She says I scare her friends.  Well I am smiling now and I'm smiling BIG!!  I moved into my little room/ cubbie this past Sunday at Sanctuary of Davidson!!!!
My husband and I play this game, if you won the lottery and you could do anything in the world, what would you do?  My answer is always the same.  After I help feed the hungry and give a large portion to cancer research, I would open my own store.  Then he always says if you win the lottery you wouldn't have to work.  Then I always say, but it wouldn't be work, it would be my dream!

The night before I moved into my little space fear started creeping in.  What if no one buys anything, what if I don't have enough stuff to fill the space, how am I going to make enough to cover the rent and make money, what if I decorate the space and it looks stupid.  What had I gotten myself into?  I was totally thinking about backing out and just going back to having my stuff throughout the gallery.  But I had already told Krissy I would do it and I already paid my rent for the month.  I had to do it.

It really helped that my husband was so supportive and happy to help.  The four of us loaded everything into two cars and drove to the gallery.  As we made trip after trip hauling things in, it did my heart good to see both kids willing to carry stuffed owls and painted wood in order to help out mom.

Lilly was especially helpful.  I don't know if it was just being in a gallery after hours or if she was really excited about me having a little space to call my own.  While my husband and I hung stuff, she was all into doing my displays for me.  She did a great job too, I was pretty impressed!

This one wasn't as excited about decorating mom's space, but who can blame him, there weren't many footballs laying around the gallery.

Getting started......

and this is what it looked like after three hours of moving, hammering, shifting, tilting, more hammering, and cussing (just kidding) (not really).

If you're ever in the Davidson area please stop by Sanctuary and visit my little happy space! Even if I don't make enough to cover the rent, I am so glad I am giving it a shot.

  2. Girl, I saw it Monday and everything looks so great and fun. Love the creamy display shelf, couldn't figure out what you made it from but guessing it used to be something else. You have a delightful mix of things in there and it made me happy to stand in there partly knowing it was a dream realized for you and partly just because it's so stinking cute! You're going to do great : )

  13. CT is juat too far away :-(. Or maybe not--I'd want everything, or at least one of everything, wouldn't want to leave you without stock. If you don't make the rent, the people in your area don't know a good thing when they see it.

  15. Your space looks really happy! It would be my first spot to visit when I needed to buy a present for someone. I tweeted your etsy shop because I love small businesses like yours and the effort that you put in is admirable.

Wish you all the best with your new happy space and your future/dreams!

  20. Hi there, I'm not sure how I stumbled upon your blog (maybe Pinterest...) but I'm so glad I did! Your space looks great! The only thing that bothers me is that for the 3 years we lived in Cornelius (now back in MA), Sanctuary wasn't open! Seriously, I move away and all the cool stuff starts happening :-) Luckily I still have friends to visit in Charlotte and I can't wait to shop in beautiful downtown Davidson! Congratulations and best of luck with your new venture! Jen
