Not drinking the water.

Babies babies everywhere!!.  I'm scared to drink the water.  I love me some babies but seeing a newborn makes me break out in a sweat.  I have flashbacks of sleepless nights, trying to breast feed, trying to breast feed, trying to breast feed, oh did I mention trying to breast feed?  I love me some other people's babies.  I think I am an older kid kinda girl.  When they can go to the bathroom by themselves, or tell me what hurts instead of screaming, get their own snack, buckle their own seat belt!   Ohhhh but those babies are sooooo cute.

I have needed several baby gifts lately, and we're on a budget.  We have a beach trip coming up and my stupid van just pooped out on me.  Yes that will be $2,000.00 please.  One step forward, three steps back. I am thankful for my van, I am thankful for my van, I am thankful for my van.  OK just needed to get that out......So if you need a baby gift and can sew a straight line I have a project for you.  Handmade burp cloths!

Cut a rectangle piece of pretty fabric 10 inches by 24 inches or however big you want the burp cloth to be.

Cut a piece of fabric for the bottom of the burp cloth a little larger.  I love that soft minky fabric.

 Pin right sides together.

Sew half inch seam around, leaving a 3 inch hole at the bottom.

Turn inside out though 3 inch hole.

Iron and then top stitch around the burp cloth.  This will give it a finished look and also close the hole at the bottom.

Tie with a pretty ribbon and you have some beautiful handmade burp cloths!!

Add a sweet owl and you have the perfect baby gift!  Click here for owl tutorial!

So are you a baby person or a bigger kid kinda girl!?!?
Happy Sewing!

  1. Great tutorial, Angela! For those of us who are proportion- and pattern-challenged, could you please put an owl pattern online so we can have our own little parliament of owls? Thank you!

  2. I love burp cloths...been doing them for years! I've done some like yours, but mostly I sew a wide piece of ribbon to the bottom of a prefold birds eye diaper and add a monogram. I think my friends almost expect them from me now I've done so many :) We must be sharing the same water source...there are a gazillion babies popping out in my Bible study group right now...seriously! I think I'm a little baby person though. I like the age where you can sit them down and you know they won't move or talk back, HA!

Oh yes, I did forget about the lack of backtalk in babies. My daughter is almost 10 and I can not beleive the amount of sassiness that comes out of her mouth!!!!!!!!!! Do you sell you burpcloths? On Etsy?
    Lots of love

  5. I'm not a baby person either! My kids are 5, 4, and 3 right now sound I'm loving the freedom! Ha! They are all potty-trained, can get a snack/drink, and can usually tell me what's wrong. They still scream but we're working on it :)
