She....My Mother

She……My Mother

The first to hold me as a child,
This woman, so young, with the soothing smile,
The giver of love beyond visions wild;
She………My Mother.

Creator of games to pass the day,
Tucked me in at night and taught me to pray,
Then snuggled in when I begged her to stay;
She……….My Mother.

Steady and Calm as the eye of the storm,
Attended pet funerals, pretended to mourn,
Keeper of love and creator of warmth;
She……….My Mother.

This Lady, serene, queen of sacrifice,
Gentle corrector, always so wise,
Buyer of ice-cream to dry my eyes;
She……….My Mother.

Carries herself with unparalleled style,
Silently grieves with all our goodbyes,
Wept more than I as I walked down the aisle;
She……….My Mother.

The woman I admire and shall forever need,
Taught me to believe in the beauty of dreams,
My Shining light for as long as I breathe,
She……….My Mother.

  1. What a beautiful testiment to the role as "mother." I hope my children feel the same when they're older. I think the words are even more true as I watch my mom be a grandmother. Thanks for sharing the beautiful poem!
